Unofficial Animal Crossing Guide: Villagers

Villagers. The most annoying yet sought after part of the game of Animal Crossing. Annoying for two reasons. The first being that even if you enter your house just to put something into your storage, they will likely barge in on you and get offended if you try to leave. The second, being that it is close to impossible to get the villager you want: literally. The odds for each villager are under 1%. It doesn’t matter what villager it is you want, the probability of getting that specific villager is very slim. I’m going to link the video I watched about the rarest villagers with the stats to back it up here, so go check it out if you want a better understanding of just how hard it is to get your dream villager. So if you have gotten your dream villager (Raymond, anyone?) then congrats. If not, don’t lose hope. there is one full proof way to get them, if you’re willing to spend a little extra.

Yes, I’m talking about amiibos. Some people love them, some people hate them, others don’t even know how to use them, so let’s talk about it. There are lots of different kinds of amiibos. There’s statues (which are the most expensive), big cards, little cards, and there are some people who even make custom amiibos (Like Nook’s Cove). What kind of amiibo you get depends on how many you want and how much you want to spend. You can find packs on Amazon for a decent price, but unless the packs are a specific series, and your villager is in that series, it’s another luck of the draw of whether or not you get good villagers.

I recently bought a pack of 75, and I wasn’t too disappointed. While I did miss out on some of the iconic villagers like Raymond, Tangy, and Sherb, I did get some of the ones I’d been hoping for, like Stitches, Lucky, Rosie, Ankha, and more. This is probably the easiest way to get the villagers you want. Once your resident services is up and running, you can get on the ABD machine and there will be an option to invite a camper via amiibo.

Once you invite them, they’ll ask you to make them a souvenir. If you don’t have the diy, they’ll give it to you, which can be nice. But it’s also a bit of a tedious process, because you’ll have to collect the ingredients if you don’t already have them, and craft their requested souvenir. Then you have to do it two more times, and give them two more souvenirs. Then, and only then, will they agree to move out. If you already have 10 villagers, you can actually pick who to negotiate with, which will essentially kick them out and put your new villager in by the next day.

There’s another option with the campsite, which is to just wait for a campsite visitor to appear on your island. This happens roughly once a week. Again, the chances of it being a villager you want is slim, but I’ve managed to get some great villagers from the campsite randomly, like Audie (after already having Freya) and Marshall. If you already have one of the species on your island, the chances are slightly higher you will get another of that species to appear on the islands or in your campsite. But one thing to keep in mind is that it will be randomly chosen who they suggest to ask to move out. You can say no, obviously, but then whatever villager that is in the campsite won’t move in, and it’s likely you won’t see them again.

The next option is villager hunts. Using a ton of nook miles tickets, go to islands until you find one of the villagers you are looking after. But this will take a lot of time, and a lot of miles if you are not using real-life dollars to buy your nook miles tickets. And, this is only available if you have an open spot on your island.

And lastly, you can just leave empty plots blank and wait to see who shows up, but I in my opinion that is probably the worst option to go with. It will likely be a very unliked random villager that you will have to wait a long time before it can move out.

Speaking of moving out, let’s talk about how to get that done. Besides forcing them with amiibos/the campsite, there is two other ways that they will move out. The first is you will see them on your island with a thought bubble above their head. This doesn’t always mean they want to move out. Sometimes, it just means that they want to give you a new nickname, or will ask to come over. If it is to move out, however, you can say yes or no, and if you say yes, then they will be out in a few days. The day after you tell them to move out, they’ll be boxing up their house, and they should be gone by the next day. But if you are living each day and animal crossing day the same, this may take a while and there’s no guarantee it will be the villager you want. If the game hasn’t saved yet, hit the home button and exit out without saving, and it will most likely change person. But you’ve got a small window of time before the game auto-saves, so that’s not full-proof, either. The other way to do it is to time travel, run around and see if anyone wants to leave, and repeat if no one does. But if you tell them to leave, you’ll have to time travel or go through the next three days to ensure that they fully move out before reverting back to current day, unless you are indifferent about the date and time of your island compared to that of your daily life.

And that’s all there is to it! I’ll talk about friendship levels later on, but next I want to move on to getting the fish, bugs, and sea creatures all listed down in a more efficient way than the wikis.
